What it fixes
What gets cleaned
Each fix is a switch, so you choose what changes. Titles, dates, tags and descriptions of the bookmarks that stay are kept as they were.
Duplicate bookmarks
The same page saved twice, even when the copies differ in http or https, www., a trailing slash, a #section or tracking codes. The first copy stays.
http://www.example.com/page/?utm_source=x https://example.com/page#top → one bookmarkEmpty folders
Folders with nothing inside, including folders that only hold other empty folders, or that are left empty once duplicates are gone.
Old stuff › New folder (0) → removedSame-name folders
Two folders with the same name side by side, often left by an earlier import, become one folder holding everything from both.
Recipes + Recipes → RecipesBroken links
Bookmarks with no address or one that can't be read, and non-web ones such as file:, chrome: and place: links. Bookmarklets (javascript: links) are never written to the clean file.
HREF="" · file:///C:/notes.txt → removedSort A–Z

Questions about cleaning bookmarks
How do I export bookmarks from Chrome?
Open the Chrome menu (the three dots at the top right), choose Bookmarks and lists, then Bookmark manager, or press Ctrl+Shift+O (Cmd+Option+B on a Mac). In Bookmark manager, open the three-dot menu at the top right and choose Export bookmarks. Chrome saves an HTML file that you can drop here.
How do I export bookmarks from Edge, Firefox or Safari?
Edge: press Ctrl+Shift+O to open Favorites, select More options (…) and choose Export favorites. Firefox: press Ctrl+Shift+O (Cmd+Shift+O on a Mac) to open the Library, then choose Import and Backup → Export Bookmarks to HTML. Safari on a Mac: choose File → Export → Bookmarks. Each one saves an HTML file this tool reads, and exports from Brave and Raindrop.io work too.
How do I import the cleaned file back into my browser?
Chrome: Bookmark manager → three-dot menu → Import bookmarks. Edge: Favorites → More options (…) → Import favorites, then pick Favorites or bookmarks HTML file. Firefox: Library → Import and Backup → Import Bookmarks from HTML. Safari: File → Import From → Bookmarks HTML File. Importing adds to the bookmarks you already have, so delete the old ones first if you only want the clean set, and keep your original export as a backup.
What counts as a duplicate?
Two bookmarks that open the same page. Before comparing, each address is normalised: http and https count as the same, and so do www. or no www., a trailing slash, a #section at the end and tracking codes such as utm_source, fbclid and gclid. The first copy in your file is kept, and the summary shows which folder each removed copy was in. App routes after a # (like #/inbox) and upper or lower case in the path still count, because there they can mean a different page.
Is my bookmarks file uploaded?
No. Your browser reads the file and does all the cleaning on your device, and the downloads are made there too, so your bookmarks are never sent to Trezio or anyone else. The page doesn't keep your file; it only remembers which options you ticked, in this browser's local storage.
Can I clean my Pocket export?
Yes. If you kept the export you downloaded before Pocket closed, unzip it and drop the CSV file here. Its title, url, time_added, tags and status columns are read, unread and archived items go into Unread and Archive folders, and you can download the result as a bookmarks HTML file that browsers and bookmark managers import. A plain list of links, one per line, works too.
Can I import the cleaned bookmarks into Trezio?
Yes, the clean HTML file imports straight in. In Trezio, open Settings → Import and choose the file: folders come across as folders, tags become charms, and links you already saved are skipped. Importing is free on every plan. The free plan holds 100 items and 5 folders; Pro has no limit and costs $3.70 a month, or $2.95 a month billed yearly.
